Hey friends! I went digging around Amazon today to find you a collection of free or almost free fantasy books to curl up with over the holidays (or, if your holidays are anything like mine … to curl up with AFTER the holidays, when things slow down a little).
To be honest, I was a little surprised more authors aren’t making their books available for free. As I know from experience, it’s an amazing way to find new and loyal readers like you. But I did my best.
You can click the images above to go to the Amazon sales page and download these. They are:
- Darkness Reigns by Jill Williamson. This is part 1 of a larger saga. Jill is a great writer, as well as being active in youth ministry. She’s cool. Check out her work.
- By Divine Right by Patrick W. Carr. Besides winning awards, Patrick is one of the new writers on the Christian fantasy scene I’m most excited about. I love his work. This novella is free.
- The Realms Thereunder by Ross Lawhead. Did you know the legendary Stephen R. Lawhead has a son, Ross, who also writes? Sometimes with Stephen and sometimes on his own? I really enjoyed this suspenseful fantasy series starter by Ross, and you can get it for 99 cents. NOTE: I am seeing varying prices on Amazon for this one … my apologies if you click through and it’s not at 99 cents, but I’m including it here just in case. It’s well worth the full price!
- The Light Princess by George MacDonald. If the above writers can be considered “newcomers” in the Christian fantasy world, MacDonald is the oldest comer there is. This is the writer whose work inspired C.S. Lewis and, in many ways, created the Christian fantasy genre. 99 cents for this.
- Beauty by Robin McKinley. Technically, this is not Christian fantasy (although to my joy, Robin McKinley has recently become a believer). But it’s soooo good. A retelling of Beauty and the Beast by my favorite reteller of fairy tales. The price I’m seeing is $1.99.
Besides the five listed above, I also found this: The Complete Chronicles of Narnia for your Kindle, for 57 cents. I couldn’t get the image link to work properly, so here’s the text link:
Enjoy!
Oh, and before you go: you can grab two of my full novels absolutely free from Amazon (and other retailers) as well. Here you go:
NEW ADDITION: Because I couldn’t pass this by … I recently came across this collection of 50 works by G.K. Chesterton for under $2. It includes fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and a play. Like C.S. Lewis, Chesterton is widely considered to be one of the great Christian writers of the 20th century. Have fun with this one!
